Hi there. I’m Leslie Malin, LCSW, ACSW and this website is the virtual home of my work, my questions, my journey. I write about uncovering our authentic selves, how to clarify what we dream of achieving, and provide tools, information, and resources to identify what stands in the way of your becoming your best self. I then share what I learn, what I think and as well as what I am creating and becoming in my popular email newsletter.
I have a creditable professional background. But you surely don’t want to read some facsimile of a resume; you can already check me out: www.LeslieMalin.com, www.LeslieMalinAuthor.com, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.
A number of years ago I attended a career workshop in which we were asked to give ourselves a title that represented ourselves. What came popping into my head…The Alchemist of Possibility. “Yup”, I thought, “that’s me”. The course leader said she never heard that before. Maybe that’s because it wasn’t a recognized title. But, it is mine.
I have always explored a multitude of topics, had multiple and frequently overlapping careers, been ready to explore the unknown. But here’s the thing, to me, these were all interconnected pursuits. Each building on the other, each informing the other. Perhaps that’s why I am not a great corporate citizen, I get restless; want to go down a new rabbit hole, and can feel hemmed in.
Recently I found a new descriptor, Curator. I like that word to describe what I do and how I think. I am always in search of new articles, books, ideas, facts, experts, technology, and knowledge . Not only do I like to expand myself, but I also love to share with my clients, colleagues, friends, family and YOU!
In brief – I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 35 years (yes, I am not a youngster). I have had a fascinating and very rewarding private psychotherapy practice up to the present. Primarily I work with young adults to elders. I learn as much from them as they do from me.
I am a Career and Life Transition Coach who loves the act of co-creation that coaching, with its here and now approach, permits. I have worked with senior management and small business owners; musicians, artists, personal trainers and book authors.
I have been Human Resources Training and Development Consultant. I’ve trained thousands (no exaggeration) of people in everything from Customer Service to Coping Skills. I continue to provide Pre-Employment Assessment and assessments for Personal Development.
I have been a Clinical Director of COPAY, an adolescent, and community mental health agency on Long Island, NY. The Executive Director of Jewish Family Services of Ulster County, NY. And, I was even a Military Family Life Consultant (MFLC) for the Army, that was brief, I was considered too independent!).
The central question I’m trying to answer through my work is, “How can we overcome our fears of failure, horror of imperfection, too long held negative beliefs and thus become the person who will make us feel proud and whole?”
In order to answer that question, I share some of the latest scientific research in ways that are understandable and actionable. As I share ideas for living a full out life, I like to showcase the work and thinking of others asking similar questions. By sharing wisdom from many, we can start to discern the common characteristics and actions that make people do to be their best (or, at least, keep reaching for it!).
I’m not all about theory. I am a try out the concepts for myself kind of gal. As I experiment with new information, new processes, new technologies I can share the outcomes with you. So, in the end, you get storytelling, new research on learning and the brain, information about transformational processes, and lots of my own personal experimentation.
Hopefully, you will find Just Think’n a recipe book of sorts that combines ancient and new sources of wisdom, stories that inspire, articles from professionals in the trenches who can share their learning, and a bit more than a sprinkling of hard-earned wisdom. From that book, you can cook up your own delicious recipes for life, love, and success.
I share all this through my weekly newsletter. You can sign up below. You’ll only get information on how to become the most authentic and satisfying you. Nothing annoying or out of alignment will show up here.
Despite my more than 35 years in the field of human growth and development, I am hardly a guru or claim ownership of all the answers. I love that I have a lot to learn, and my work is to share what I’ve learned and help you on your way.
